This benefit is not a cash payment and has a maximum annual benefit amount which will reduce your compulsory HELP repayment.
You may apply annually once the income year (1 July – 30 June) you wish to apply for has ended.
This benefit will apply to individuals with HECS debts that studied in the following criteria:
- Maths
- Science
- Education
- Nursing
To be eligible you must have completed:
- Completed an undergraduate natural or physical course after 30 June 2008;
- An education course of study after 30 June 2009;
- Nursing (including midwifery) course of study after 30 June 2009.
You must lodge your tax return for the income year before your application can be processed.
The best time to lodge your application is just before, or at the same time as you lodge your income tax return.
If you lodge your application after your income tax return has been processed, we will amend your notice of assessment for the income year for which you are claiming.
